FAQs

  • What is an "API Key" and why do I need it?
    • Answer: an API Key is a unique identifier assigned to you for use in accessing PetHub's open web services (aka: APIs). The purpose of an API key is to allow us to monitor your use of our servers, access to user data, and monitor if usage of our APIs are falling within the guidelines to which a developer as agreed. It also allows us to terminate access to our APIs by deactivating a key for an application falling outside of the bounds of our Terms of Use
  • How do I request an "API Key" ?
  • Is there documentation for the PetHub APIs?
  • I have a PetHub account for my pet -- is my data safe?
    • Answer: the only way a developer using PetHub's APIs to gain access to your data is for you to give them explicit permission (and this permission can be revoked by you at any time). You also have the ability at any time to request that PetHub delete your account and any data associated with it by contacting our support team. We'd be sorry to see you go, but it's your choice and your data
  • I'm a developer who wants to create an app using your APIs and sample source code. May I copy it and use it?
    • Answer - part 1 - Sample Code: we use theĀ GNU General Public License v3.0 that gives you permission to use and modify our samples freely, including for commercial use, distribution, modification, patent use, and private use. The conditions are, however, that you disclose the source (i.e. PetHub, Inc.), the license & copyright notice that PetHub owns the copyright of the original work, you carry the same licensing permissions forward (i.e. GNU GPLv3.0), and you state any changes made. You also recognize and waive any liability against PetHub or warranty and you benefit from those same protections by using the same GNU GPLv3 license. (note: we're not attorneys, so we suggest you have an attorney review the license as the above paragraph is simply our interpretation)
    • Answer - part 2 - API code: what you do with our APIs is your copyrighted work. From the APIs themselves back to our platform would be our copyrighted work, even if we take suggestions for how to improve our APIs from an individual or our community. Please see our general Terms of Use for more information.
